The lovely folks from CUSTHOM came in last week to talk about their practice and do some design workshops with us. They introduced us to the digital embroidery machine and this is my first little sample!

I didn’t think digital embroidery was for me at all but after looking at their work and seeing the actual process I have a pretty new outlook on it and would love to experiment with it in the future.

Prints came out better than expected!

I’ve cut out quite a few of these little trees recently and hung them in my above my desk. Layered together I think they create a really interesting space so I might play around with them a bit more.

You might be able to see a bit of Rob Ryan’s work in the background. He’s been a great reference for me having never really worked with paper cutting before, and his beard is pretty brilliant too!

Had a go at cutting into photographs. This is the only one that came out alright. The others didn’t really work because I only printed onto standard printer paper, which was too thin and they caught fire!

I do like the use of photographs, particularly the damaged ones that are seen as imperfect. Working back into them makes them more of a tactile object, commemorating the forgotten moments.
